Which Medical Alert System is Right for Me?

With so many medical alert systems (MAS) on the market today, it is hard to know just what to buy.  Medical alert systems have developed by leaps and bounds from the basic device with a button that contacts EMS.

You can get devices not with GPS, cellular connectivity, fall detection, activity trackers, movement sensors and so much more.  You can connect them to your phone via Bluetooth or a home security system.

When looking into a medical device, you first want to think of your special needs, and abilities.  If you have chronic arthritis, it will be hard to push a button, so having a fall sensor may be what you need.  If you are having communication problems, then a button device could work.

Here are some things you may want to know before purchasing a MAS.

  • What do you need it to do?
  • What kind of equipment will work best for you?
  • How do monitoring and response work?
  • How much does it cost?
  • Availability in your area.

Knowing these questions can help you determine what kind of system you need, want, or which will work in your area.  There would be no need to buy more than you need or buy something that, by the time you get home, won’t work because it doesn’t get a signal.
